Garlic and Nitrates.

I have had a mild case of ich on a new Royal Gamma that I recently introduced to the tank. My first attempt to help the Gamma has been to introduce a clove of crushed garlic at feeding once a day. It seemed to help right away. But now I am thinking it is more due to the natural cycle of ich, he is hideing and not coming out. It is a reef so I do not know if I can get him out for a dip or QT. Here is my question I did a 20 % WC Friday, on Sunday I chedked the water , Nitrates were up to 25ppm, higher than I have observed before, everything else was normal. Is this a concern, or will the LR do its thing? Also, I have heard this is common for Gammas when moved. Any other ways to bring their stress level down?
