Garlic as a treatment for Ick

I've come across several posts that mention garlic as a possible cure for Ick. I can tell from some of these that there seems to be some controvery surrounding this and clearly it is not the treatment most recommended. Can anyone who has tried this method comment on their success or failure.
Also, in what form and dosage is the garlic adminstered? Is this the garlic suppliment that they sell at the drug store or the raw herb?
I'm interested in hearing what people on both sides of the issue think.
Hope I'm not rehashing something already discussed Ad Nausium, but I'm new to the hobby.
thanks!

Thanks Ed, I wasn't sure from what I was reading what it was supposed to do.
So what form is given in? Should crush up some fresh cloves and toss em in, sprinkle some powdered dryed garlic or are we talking about the medicinal variety they sell at the drug store.
It sounds like it might be worth a try even if it only augments their natural ability to fight it off. I think'll ultimately try a hospital tank with copper. Hyposalinity sounds like it might be labor intensive.
I wonder who thought up the idea of feeding garlic to fish?
