what is the purpose of feeding my fish garlic soaked food? is it a precaution so they dont get ick? or is it a remedy if they do get it? what exactly does it do?

Helps their immune system when they get ick. But by no means is it a remedy. Also it aids in fenicky eaters.

Not a remedy/cure all. Its like you and simm said, its a precaution. Feeding the fish 1-2 times a week (which is what I do) will help aide in the fight against ich being able to adhere (for lack of a better word), it gives the fish a boosted immune system to help fight it off. Its a good thing to try and do IMO ;)
