Garlic Treatment

flaming angel

Can someone give me some information about liquid garlic. How does it affect the fish? Does it boost their immunity? Will it prevent fish from getting ich? Does it help to add drop to the tank?
I have a 75 gallon reef tank. I removed a flame angel that had cloudy eyes and quarantined it for 3 weeks in a QT tank, treaing with appecillex. It responded beautifully and returned it to the reef tank (slowly acclimating it) and within a few days, it got ich. Now I am having a very difficult time catching it. Someone suggested I try liquid garlic added to the food.
Any thoughts on this?

Hi there and welcome to the board!
Garlic for fish is like vitamins for humans. It is unlikely to cure anything but improves their immune system. So perhaps it could prevent some forms of Ich if it is generally healthy, or could make the fish stronger during an infection. Kent's garlic extreme is very concentrated and good but I use a plain clove of garlic, crushed in water and soak the food in it. The fish go mad for it (they love it) and it does them good.
However, it is packed full of nutrients which can lead to things like diatom algae.
Did you have any other fish in the main tank? What you need to do is remove all hosts (i.e. fish) from the tank so within 3 weeks or so the Ich will perish. As long as there are hosts in there it can breed.
Beth and Terry will add to this as they are very knowledgable in this area :)
All the best,
Tim.
