I would say it works. I used garlic in combination w/ UV sterilizer and I eradicated a pretty tough ich epedemic. My nitrates were high, which was the cause of the ich. I fixed that by feeding less and adding a refugium. I used a store bought garlic extract, but I have read that others have made their own w/ success. I used Garlic Elixer by Ecosystems Aquariums.
