Gave Yellow Tang away to get Koran Angel!!!

I had to give my 6" Yellow tang away to my brother-in-Law. I had the tang for about 3 years, and I had to give him away because he was to aggressive. I put in a Harleqiun Tuskfish, and he would not stop hitting him with his tail until he died. Today I put in a 5" Koran Angel that I got at my LFS ($50) and as soon as I put the bag in the tank the tang went after him trying to slash him through the bag. I cought him gave it to my brother-in-law and let the Koran have the 125 all to himself. My wife was kind of upset because we had him from the beginning, but I could not put anything with him. I will wait a couple of weeks, and get another one. Has anyone ever seen a Yellow tang get this teritorial?

I hate that about yellow tangs. They seem to be aggressive.

had a yellow tang with a koran angel too. he was the same way for about a week, but after about a week, the koran found his territory and they lived in peace. but i guess better safe then sorry in your case

I got a suggestion from the woman I deal with in my fish store, she seems to know her stuff, I go to her whenever I have problems. Anyway she recommends getting one of those large plastic tanks, the ones with the holes on the top, you usually see them at fishstores with eels or octopus's in them. Anyway put the aggressive fish in there for about a week to 10 days and then release him back into the tank. Its kind of like a time out for the aggressive fish. I've done it with numerous fish and it seems to work fine. Who says you can't have more than one Angel per tank, I had two with this method. It may be a pain to feed him, but if you want to keep your fish it's better than nothing.

Great tip battlecat. I am curious to know which two angels do you have in your tank?

I often have removed an aggessive fsih into another tank when introducing a new arrival. SOmetimes need 2 -3 weeks to get the desired effect. In essence what your doing is giving the new fish an oppertunity to stake his territory and the old fish to relinguish his dominance or in other words re-schuffling the pecking order.
May have to do this in about 2weeks when my adult emperor is ready to come out of Q tank into the land of the tangs in a 125g where Sohal king awaits.
