I can see to a point why we do some modifying of seeds. Grow faster, stronger, more resistant to bugs, mold etc.
BUT, I will tell you with every breath I breathe this is why NOW in the past several years more and more people are becoming allergic to peanuts/nuts. My hubby was in a huge study for two years with a huge school here several years ago that had to do with people developing nut allergies past childhood. (my hubby was fine with all nuts until 37 years old) And the best part was most kids were only allergic to peanuts....now most are now becoming allergic to tree AND bush nuts.Years agao you never crossed. My hubby can have maccadamia, pecans, cashews...NOTHING else. Its the craziest thing I have ever seen.

I first saw this same berry on the Science Channel on the show "Popular Science the Future of" episode "Pleasure" and the idea of it was so awesome!!
I wish I could find the original video but I can't. What they explained was that this particular berry has molecular structure nearly identical to sugar but the connection needed to make it sugar is not present instead the two molecules that are needed are extremely close to each other. What this does is confuses our sensory system which goes crazy!! Your brain repeatedly switches back from saying sugar, not sugar, sugar, not sugar, sugar and so on creating a sweetness overload. The genes of this berry have been taken out replicated and now modified into a yellow strawberry (very much like how the anti-freeze gene that fish have has been put into tomatos allowing them to grow in the coldest of places) which is currently going through the final stages of USDA and FDA approval and will soon pass. Essentially what this berry allows people to do is eat and drink some of the more nasty tasting foods which are extremely healthy for you and literally transform the flavor making them taste like candy. The overload from one berry last for about 45 mins allowing you to eat vegetables and fruit that are not very apitizing till your stuffed. It has the same effect on almost anything that is edible but sour foods seem to taste the sweetest.
I thought this was really cool and can't wait to try it. Here's the only good video I could find on the berry that sorta explains it as well as the popular science one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dcvc-AwORE
ENJOY!!

Depends what you mean by genetic engineering. Humankind has modified crops and domesticated animals since the invention of agriculture. Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Peas, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Wheat, Barley, Apples, Strawberries, Corn, Roses, Irises, pigs, cows, horses, dogs, cats, etc. ad nauseum are Genetically Engineered in some manner of speaking.
What we haven't done until the last 50 years or so is add fish DNA to tomatoes or Roundup ™ resistant DNA to Soy or Corn or terminator genes to food crops or BGH to cattle.
In other words, there's a huge difference between manipulating an organism through selective breeding and doing so by splicing in DNA from different taxonomic kingdoms.
Sure, the FDA says it's safe. Bear in mind though that this is the same government you don't trust on many other levels. Why even begin to trust them with your food supply?

Now would be a good time to bring up the touchy subject of hormones in milk causing early pubescent development. What is your take on it?

totally believe it. My girlfriends daughter..10 years old is a normal milk drinker. Last summer she started showing signs of well....everything. TEN !! Pediatrician sent her to a endocrinologist. The pediatric doc said probably the milk. Endo doc. said get off milk and go to soy or hormone free milk.
Guess what......everything stopped.
Needless to say after that, I started buy hormone free milk. A little more expensive...we don't drink that much really, but I have a son and a daughter and they don't need more stuff in their system.

Even if you're wrong (which I doubt you are) having reassurance is worth the extra dime.
