GFCI outlet + power strip question

So I went to Lowe's to pick up a GFCI outlet and after I told the guy in the electrical aisle that I was going to use it with 2 of those 6-outlet power strips, he said that the two devices would cancel each other out and the GFCI outlet would keep tripping. Is this correct? It doesn't seem right to me but I don't know much about wiring.

No; if you're getting the regular replacement plug GFCI, and you plug regular powerstrips into it, they will not cancel. However if you get a GFCI plug and plug a GFCI powerstrip into it (which they also make), the two will cancel each other. HTH
