I have a falcula butterflyfish who eats fine and has no visible external parasites, but exhibits strange behavior. It will be swimming slowly and then "flinch" and "shoot" across the tank. It flinches the same way sometimes when being cleaned by the cleaner wrasse. I think the problem may be gill parasites. Breathing seems a little fast to me but not extreme. I have been soaking the food in garlic and metronidazole (hex-a-mit), but it doesn't seem to be helping. Temp=80, SG= 1.023, Ammonia=0, Nitrite=0, Nitrate=10, PH=8.4. Any suggestions about a diagnosis or a treatment would be helpful.
