glass canopy - nova extreme pro

I have a 125 (72") with a glass canopy (2- 36") the glass always get stained and is hard to clean. My light fixture is the 72" Nova Extreme Pro (12-T5's). Can I sit the fixture on the tank without the glass top? I thought I remeber reading that it needed the glass top.

My Nova Pro has a splash shield so the glass top is needed.

Sorry, I meant it is NOT needed. It is actually better to go without the glass top.

current-usa puts that in the instructions of all its fixtures. I think they are paranoid about them falling into the tank and blaming them (faulty legs, hang kit or something) because there is absolutely no reason any of their fixtures requires a glass top.

thanks to all I feel better about taing the glass canopy off, I really think it was reucing the amount of light reaching the tank.

its a proven fact glass does plus all kinds of other negative effects on the tank.
