Glass Drilling

Was at LFS today and was told by a worker that the 75gal tank i was asking about was tempered glass...the whole thing, not just bottom. His exact words were "a tank of that size is all tempered glass". The brand was All-Glass....is this true??? They are having a sale on 75 gal, but does not include pre-drilled which is a special order. They want $80 above their normal price for pre-drilled. I am just a man in search of a cheap aquarium!! Anyone know of good places to purchase w/o breaking the bank?? Thanks!!

You could contact All-Glass and ask them. I guess its possible for a tank to be all tempered but I doubt it. In most cases its the bottom that is tempered. But I would double check with the builder. There should be a sticker on the bottom of the tank that states if its tempered and not to drill.
As far as inexpensive stuff, look on the auction site you may find one in your area, Craigs list is also a great resource, news paper classifieds. For a 75 shouldn't be that hard to find and I'm sure there are deals to be had.

OK, went to their website (All-Glass), and it gives a chart and lists which aquariums have tempered bottoms, but does not mention sides. Also, on the FAQ, the question is asked about drilling and it says it should be done by professionals only, and that you should NOT drill the bottom because it is tempered. So, looks like fish-store guy was wrong. Thanks!

I seriously doubt that its "ALL" tempered glass. The bottom yes, sides not likely. Its not the first time and its certainly not goping to be the last time a LFS is wrong. They want to push the tanks they have on hand not order somehting you actually want.
