Glass & Silicone Overflow Box??

IF I have a 90g tank with a drilled 2" hole at the rear top corner of the tank for overflow purposes (sump), WOULD IT THEN be a good idea to install a glass-panel overflow box inside the tank, around the 2" hole?
I was thinking of a 3-sided glass box with the plastic grid along the tops, siliconed to the back of the tank near the top. Similar idea to some corner overflows I've seen. Anyone have anything like this??
Much appreciated,

I see no problem with this, other than glass being a bit heavy and hard to work with...I would use acrylic or lexan instead...

Mr Salty -
Thanks for the ideas, but I've never worked with either, but have a friend in the glass business. Are the plastics fairly straightforward to work with?

Apologize for butting in here .... but
I've seen something similar to what you've described at one of lfs here in town. Not sure the size hole in the back wall of the tank, but it looked like he just had some sort of gasketed bulkhead fitting with a plastic ribbed hose running down to a prefilter area of his sump.
No outer box at all.
Was very simple looking.
As long as you didn't have anything in the tank that was big enough that if it died or floated over to the inner hole and plugged it or restrict the flow - I think it would work out fine.
An outer box may look better though, and give you a place for prefiltering up top there.
I dunno - I'll shut up now <img src="graemlins//yeahright.gif" border="0" alt="[yeahright]" />

Lexan is very easy to work with,it cuts easily with a jigsaw.Plexiglass and acrylic is a bit tougher and tends to crack.

thanks for butting in - yours and salty's input is always appreciated. :)
for a tank member to get over the grid top and into the box, they'd have to leap for it!
hopefully they won't see a reason to... that's where dark plastic may come in handy, like the CPR boxes? Aren't they almost black? Up here they can run $150
