1/4 inch on front back and sides, 1/4 inch tempered for the bottom on mine.
Do you think that I could take two of these and make one wider tank? I would get new side pieces to go the 36" but wwould the other glass parts hold the amount of water pressure in your opinion? I will use etra glass as eurobracing the bottom and top and also do some corn triangle piecs on top for support.
I am just trying to figure out the cheapest way to make a 42"x36"x21" Tank.

I would guess tempered would be stronger also,
but why dont you check custom aquariums, may be cheaper and less time consuming.
unless your up for the challenge?

I have been looking into having a custom one done and it will run more than a grand to get it to my house.

well I can tell you from expirience that buying tempered glass isnt cheap at retail prices. your looking about 160 bucks each for the panes of tempered glass. plus the cost of materials to assemble it. so if your going all tempered than your looking at about a grand anyway

I wasnt planning on going tempered just incase I decided on a closed loop I could drill. For the glass pieces themselves it would cost me 680.
