Glass top question.

So i am about to get a 75 going FOWLR tank. I probably am going to go bare bottom although i am not 100% sure on that. My question is, since this is not a reef set up but FOWLR, can i keep the aqueon glass top on the 75? Reason i ask is that i already have them, but i have noticed that many marine tanks do not use tops.

Hi, Welcome to the site!

Just a personal opinion...bare bottom tanks are FUGLY. Like I said, it's just my opinion, and it's your tank.

The reason we keep the tops open is because SW has less oxygen then freshwater, so we need really good gas exchange to keep everything alive. Water surface movement is very important, and the more surface exposed to the air, the better.

Also, when you have a lot of motion in your water plus a glass top, you deal with salt creep on your glass that you are constantly having to clean up.

Hahahaah, i know that bare bottom marine tanks are not everyones cup of tea, but i have seen a few that look great and i want the least amount of problems. I will have plenty of LIVE ROCK that the bottom will not be to distracting. Thanks for the info on the glass top and the air exchange, i guess i will just put the glass tops away or just give them away. I have the marineland LED strip lights, i may just put a strip of glass just underneath the lights for splash avoidance to the lights.

Want to be careful with a bare bottom though, because I have heard that if a rock falls, the bottom glass could be cracked
