glass tops

Well I bought some glass tops for my aquarium a while ago, and then I read some threads here, and there was questions about what to cover your tank with. Well some wrote that they had glass tops on their tanks and their corals were not getting enough light because of it. Well my lights just came in and I got the Nova Extreme Pro 72" set. I have a 180 gallon. So my question is.... Will the glass tops

up my lighting for the corals?

You could go to home depot or lowes and get egg crate. Its the square with holes in it for florescent lights. You can cut it to fit. I would only recommend a glass top if u have a light that has to rest on the top of the aquarium. Such as an aquarium hood. With glass tops gases are trapped and cant escape.

Well chalk up my first and hopefully only dumb purchase
. Well still in the fresh water frame of mind and did not think of it when I bought them.

Dont feel bad i have one on my nano cause i just used the light hood that i had left over. The only thing different is i bought a 50/50 florescent for it. But im about to get the same fixture as u so im gonna have to get egg crate too.

Well new problem, I was setting my lights up and when I was reading the booklet it says that the lights are not made for open top tanks, and that you need glass tops. So my thoughts are that this light must be strong enough to keep corals and all alive with a glass top. But as bounty hunter23 said the gasses can not escape. So what do I do
?

i have a glass cover on my tank and everything is fine. Just don't let to much salt build up on it.

Do you have a light that sits on top of the tank? Is it made for a class or plastic canopy? Some ppl have it sitting on top of the egg crate, but i would not recommend that.... IMO. Egg crate is ideal for lights that have legs and sit up over the water, or lights that are attached to something over the tank....(ceiling, hood, etc....)
