Can anybody tell me anything about goatfish..I seemed to have rescued one but my books don't help me identify it although I have seen them in stores a couple of times...Are they reef safe...etc
i dont think goats are reef safe, but im not 100% on that. they are easily identifiable beacuse of their barbels under their chin. they are somewhat slender fish that can usually be seen swimming just over the substrate. they are a bottom feeder, and some will even clean other fish. the most common in the trade are the bicolor, yellow, hawaiian, and the common goat. they are all peaceful and usually do well in FOWLR tanks or just FO tanks.
I cannot find it for the life of me but I'm 90% sure I recently read an article about goat fish... they are bottom dwellers that feed like cat fish... but I think they can get pretty big!

Final thoughts on my new goat fish. SInce he eats krill whole and live ghost shrimp seem to get him jazzed up I would say that being in a fish only tank was a good idea. His color has gone from very pale to a nice dark red and and odd as this may seem he has paired off with my harlequin tusk.. Thanks to all who gave input on him and God Bless America..
