FINALLY...the Goby is in the QT....not looking too happy tonight though.....Depending on its first night....I will start hypo tomorrow

It's not going to the sand box though :(
54G has also been re-aquascaped......There will be a thread on that in the reef section....and it will remain empty of fish

He should be just fine in there. Just keep an eye on the PH when you do the hypo. It has a tendency to fall with SG. So far so good though!

Happy to report that the goby is investigating and that he ate a great breakfast too....I feed him shrimp from a feeding stick and he attacked it like normal....
I will start the hypo procedure after he digests his food.....LOL

Sounds good - just go slow and watch him for any odd behavior. I had a wrasse that didn't like hypo too much and if I came down too fast - he'd wind up on his side (swim bladder problems) - so as long as I went slower than normal - like only .002-.003 per day he was fine.....but come down twice that fast, ahd he'd roll over and not look good. I've never had this prob with a goby though. just something to look for.......good luck!

Better to make several small FW changes, rather fewer larger changes. Check pH regularly, and maybe even bring your FW up to 8.0 before it goes in.
Don't go overboard with the feeding until you make sure that the QT isn't going go through a big cycle spike due to the added load.

I just changed 1 Gallon.....salinity did not change much.....barely noticeable on the refractometer.....should I do another gallon?

Check ammonia, nitrite, pH, and salinity tonight before bedtime, after all the water changes. Water should be good with maybe some pH adjustment. Just remember, make pH changes slowly. And the target for this will be 8.0, even though your display is higher than that. Ammonia is less toxic with lower pH. Once the process is over, you can raise pH once you start returning the water to normal salinity following hypo.
Use some fresh garlic in one feeding if you can. Not bottled garlic.

OK...so far I have changed 5 gallons.....
we are down to 1.020 (maybe 1.019 1/2) LOL
ammonia is 0 yipppppeee
nitrites are 0
PH....a little low.....I have buffer, but don;t want to rush it....it's probably 7.8 I will check again in a little while
I also think I should buy another PH kit.....I use Salifert, and I do have an API kit, BUT with al lthis testing it will be used up rather quickly the salifert is only good for 50 tests.....and I have tested quite a bit today
any recommendation.....or should I stick with Salifert?

I like Salifert.
Get the pH to 8.0. You should be done for the night then.

Sounds good meow ;
I usually only add buffer once - then wait 1/2 day & check - it's easier to bring it up than overshoot. You'll notice ph will wanna drop off as you get lower in sg. - so just have a little mixed buffer solution/kalk ready to go. I like to add slightly LESS than I think it'll take - again it;s easy to overshoot and too high is worse than too low IME> Yup - with a 20g tank, (my favorite qtine) I usually change 3 gallons at a time, 2x per day to go into/out of hypo. Sounds great so far....this is great experience for future "new" fishes, and only after a few qtine events, you'll be a pro at it.

My tank is a 16G....since I work tomorow, I won't get to change as much.....HIGHLY doubtful I will have time to change any in the morning....LOL...SO I will change 1g when I get home.....then another an hour later I guess
I use reef buffer to raise the ph.....it says use a tsp per 40G tank to raise .1 SO I used 1/4 tsp....(yeah I was nervous) SO now I have added 1/2 tsp
will test again soon

Why does he have to go through hypo?
Beth: you can feed raw garlic to fish? Is it highly helpful?
He has to go thru hypo because all the otehr fish died from ich......so In order to make sure I kill the ich....that is why the hypo
you don't feed them garlic....you use the juice and soak their food in it...boosts their immune system
