Goby MIA!

48 hours have passed and I haven't seen him at all. He's a sandsifting goby that is about 4". I do have a CBS in the tank, but this goby is lightning quick and somewhat skiddish. I tested my Ammonia and Nitrates to see if there was a spike and they both are reading zero. If he was toast wouldn't I be seeing a spike of some kind with the water? I did check the outside of the tank to make sure I didn't have a jumper. He was properly drip acclimated as well. The tank has a lot of rock for hiding spots but the two days we had/have him he was out sifting like there was no tomorrow.
Ideas/suggestions?

Just a cleaner crew and a CBS. He was added 4 days ago.

You have a 90 gallon tank, right? A single fish probably isn't going to make much of a spike in a cycled tank, and your clean up crew would have eaten most of it before it started to pollute the tank.
It's possible it's just hiding. New fish can take a while to adjust to their surroundings. Was it eating?

It was eating/sifting like crazy. I didn't know that a casualty could be that minimal on the water parameters.
Snake, yeah, just peachy! Looks like I may have to up the ante on the money wasted thread!

Oh well, hopefully he's just hiding, and not in the CBS's stomach.

Do you perchance have any other pets such as cats or dogs? If so you may never find out if it jumped or not, if you know what I mean. I only found half of my Diamond goby.
Let's all sing it together, "the circle, the circle of life...."

Here it goes.
Two days in a row, I don't see my Firefish.
Four days I didn't see my Mandrin
1 day out of 8 I have seen my new Diamond Goby
One day they eventually come out of their hole.

I would have never guessed that goby's travel the water column.

They are sneaky and like to hide anywhere that they find "safe", including your carpet
. Can you add some mesh to the opening to the overflow?

You can try by using a netting first to try to get it out of the overflow. Best to put some sort of cover over your overflow and you need some egg crate or something to cover the back of your canopy too since they're known to be jumpers....

Good luck you have to catch him with a small net and it take time. You will get eventually though so try every day. I knew thats where he would turn up.

Maybe put some eggcrate above the water-line around your overflows? Dunno if this guy is too small and might fit through....
