going aggresive

I'm getting a new 180 gal for reef that is now in my 90 gal. my husband wants to do some aggressive fish like a sting ray and maybe trigger. most of the rock will go in my 180. right now in my 90 i'm running a sump and refugium. do you guys run regular filters? or do what I'm doing for a reef. I was going to take most of the rock out for the new tank and I read that a sting ray needs more sand area. so could i do with less rock in there. my 90 is in a wall with 3 sides showing and i could leave some rock at the 1 end. what are your opinions

No personal experience here, but from what I read on these boards a 90 is not big enough for a ray. If you do get one, it will need lots of space, so less rock. I'd fill the sump/fuge up with rock, be sure to have a very good skimmer, and leave it at that.

Also a trigger would pick on a kill the sting ray. If you wanted to, you could get a snowflake eel, a huma or niger trigger, and probably something else with a good skimmer.
