Well, I "upgraded" my skimmer to the Aqua C remora pro skimmer and after a couple of weeks, it still collects 1 1/2 to 2 cups a day of skimmate! The foam is dark and "foamy", and the skimmate is moderately dark so I know that it is indeed doing it's job and is removing DOC'S from my 55gal (new) reef tank. I just get tired of having so much water being removed from the tank! I emptied the full cup this morning and when I got home 11 hours later, the cup was full and was dumping back into the tank. That's just not good. I tried moving the cup up and down by moving the O-Ring, but just could not get it to produce a drier skimmate.
My Seaclone sat in a bleach soultion for about a week and after being removed and thoroughly flushed out, is as clean as new. I had the 2 of them running together for a few days when i first got the Remora and the Seaclone consistently produced a very dark and concentrated skimmate, as it always has, compared to the much less concentrated stuff in the Remora.
So It's back to the Seaclone for now.
Interesting note: both units came equipped with a MaxiJet 1200 powerhead! one has the air injection intake, the other doesn't.
P.S. Anybody want to buy a slightly used Remora? PM me if interested.
