at an impatient psychiatric hospital. i have one semester left of nursing school and didnt work this past semester to focus on my studies. i'm really hoping to get this job, so i can stack some money over the summer to do some things i've been meaning to do (vacation, macna, vortech's, ca reactor, etc.) the position i am being considered for is on a child and adolescent unit with patients aging from 3 to 18 years old. (that's not a typo, its a three, not a one-three). aside from the good pay, i need the benefits in a bad way, too. this job would really be a game changer for my summer.
i feel the first interview went well. if it didnt i wouldnt have been asked to come in for a second. today i will be on the unit for 4 hours to see how well i interact with the patients. i've done clinical rotations at this hospital and really enjoyed the experience, however i'm a bit apprehensive about working with mentally ill children. these arent kids with MR... they are young kids with psychosis, schizophrenia, mania, depression, personality disorders, and drug/alcohol problems. i'm really hoping i can pull out all the stops and wow the care-teams today. this would be a great experience and a chance to change the lives of children who are products of their environment at home.
wish me luck.

Good luck. I taught at Job Corps so I have an understanding of how troubling the children can be. I dont think the work enviroment is the same, but there are similar experiences I am sure. When I was at Job Corps, people always told me I was helping kids who needed the help. It made me feel better for a little bit. I dont think I helped all that many kids because there were quite a few who didnt want the help in the first place. With what your doing, or about to do hopefully, I think you will have more opportunities to help and actually make a difference in those kids lives. GL again.

Second interview is very good. If they are having you come in for 4 hours then it should mean that its your job to loose. I have a friend who works as a nurse in a mental hosiptal and she loves the work. The hours are hard but the pay is great. Sounds like your tank is gonna like you working there as well. Good luck!!!
