Going for the Hattrick !

We all ask about the stocking order of our livestock. Im about done cycling and have 4 tenants in mind. Zebra moray, dragon wrasse ,huma trigger and a purple tang. My LFS will have all but the tang in tomorrow or Wednesday the latest . Assuming they are the size I want , what would be the problem, if any, of adding 3 fish to the new tank at the same time. Aside from outright catastrophe ie the water wasnt ready, wont the simultaneous adding of them take away from the territorial issues of established fish? Has anyone done this or have any experience with this concept ? Thanks Peter

How big are the fish & eel??? 4 might be pushing it, as you might be in for an ammonia spike, depending on how well your bio filtration set up. I know the Humma is a messy eater, & Tangs like good water quality. Just keep a close eye on your H2O perameters the first few weeks. Good luck

Your theory makes a lot of sense. The fish are supposed to be 3 to 4 inches apiece and Im not sure about the eel but Ill have my choice and would prefer 12 to 14 inches to start. Im thinking maybe get just two to start and another a few weeks down the road. Anyone else have any thoughts ?

can't you add some one week and have your lfs hold onto the other 2 and add them in after a little while ? Did you order them or are they all in stock. If it was something they always have or get in on a weekly basis i would slowly add the fish Getting fast and adding a bunch of big aggressive eaters sounds like a bad idea

Sounds like I will do it the old fashioned way. Last week I had the ammonia spike and drop off. Then the nitrates/nitrites and subsequent 20% water change. Now all my parameters look good and were confirmed by my LFS. To answer Tonys question its only been running for about 5 weeks but with 125lbs of awesome Fiji LR and a powershot of bacteria from my local guy water is ready. I'll take all your collective advice and take it one at a time. Thanks again for all your help. This board is a wonderful resource. Peter

A word of caution, even with the bacteria spike you mentioned and unless you used the inorganic method to cycle your tank, there is only enough population of nitrifying bacteria to handle the current load. You could add all three animals but I would suggest carefully montoiring ammonia and nitrites and be prepared to do small water changes to avoid problems. Otherwise good luck and nice mix of aggressives!
