so, i have a regualer 10,000 something bulb... (forgive me, the tank is at my gurls home...) :notsure:
i'd like to add some shrooms or zoos, or feather dusters just to start....... later on w/ the bigger tank we can do a "real" reef...............
so what type of shrooms, zoos need very low lighting that i could get away w? and how can i acclimate..

its a 70 g tall tank.... has a hippo, 2 percs ( almost a yr), 2 neon gobies.. various snails, hermits, crabs, 70 lbs maybe more of LR (2 yrs) has some nice growth on it... water is perfect, 5 gallon change done once a week.
thanx for any help guys, this board is great :happyfish

not much will thrive under those lights. Your idea of feather dusters is a good one. Maybe someone else can chime in here but maybe there are some types of shrooms if placed up high would do well.

yeah, this tank isn't at my house, but i take care of it, so just low light stuff... what about x mas coral, i heard those are non photosenthetic?
or what base light would i need to keep shrooms n mushrooms for that tank?

you know zoas really arent low light corals but seem to be the consensus around here. Especially the bright colored colonial zoanthus. they wont spread and possible lose color and decrease in numbers under low light. Palythoa and protopalythoa (look like zoa's just bigger and usually less colorful, referred to as button polyps) fair better. none will fair well under normal output flourescents. Christmas tree coral doesn't need any light. I have one. easy to keep just feed it zooplankton a few times a week or possibly phyto although I rarely do. Sun coral doesn't require any light as well just beyond normal efforts to keep it fed. Other than those two I wouldn't get anything else without at least power compact lighting.

IMO you cant really keep anything in that tank because the lights aren't suitable for a reef aquarium, maybe dusters but i dont even think shrooms. You could get one MH pendant or a pretty nice PC setup for relatively cheap for that setup, i woudl get the lights first.
