Gold Stripe Maroon Clown

I already have a LTA and was wondering if the Gold Stripe Maroon would host it or would I need to get a different one? If I need to get a different one which one is better for it?

It's a 50-50 chance your clown will host any anemone. Lta's or bubble tips are good choices for hosting. Some clowns will bond as soon as you put them together and sometimes it will take a couple of weeks and sometimes not at all. Be careful putting 2 different kinds of anemones together unless you have a large tank. Also be sure the anemone is 2 or 3 times larger than the clown especially with with maroons because they can be very aggressive with the anemone.

Howdy,
Maroon's in the wild host the BTA. But, Maroon's in captivity will host to anything (anemone, corals, rocks, powerhead, etc...). Do match the size of the anomene to the fish. Maroon's I am told, "will love anything to death!" Good Luck.

Thanks for the help it was a aquacultered clown so it will take alittle longer for it to host as it doesnt know what it is. The LTA is atleast 6 - 7 times the size of the Maroon clown.

I know how large they will grow but how quick do they reach that length? I want to say he is at most 1.5" right now. It already has gotten the gold stripes (born with just white stripes)
Also do they usually have a black outline around the strips? I was told no but wasnt sure myself.

Maroons live to be 5 or 6 years (I think, don't quote me
). So a good guess is maybe an inch a year. They also can change their color stripes (white to gold or vice versa). It is all fishnvidual
The stripes of older ones may fade as the maroon gets darker.

The lfs store here had one in their show tank for 12 years, it died like 2 years or so ago. It sucks because I remember that fish from when I was like 14 years old.

Maroon clowns are very agressive so if you have any peaceful fish in tank watch out. I just got rid of my maroon clown, I think he killed my BTA and he used to attack me all the time.

How did you get him out of the tank? Mine is moving all my coral and I want to put him in my FOWLR tank. But I can not catch him. O have even tired putting his food in the net and letting a piece float out but hes not going for that. I told the hubby I just might have to get a fishing pole out.

My Maroon GS isn't exhibiting any aggressiveness yet. He is about 3 inches. I have a three striped damsel more pushy than the maroon. I only have one coral and no one in the tank has touched it. What's hillarious is watching a 3" damsel tail smack my 16" SFE in his snout.
Crazy fish!

No, Gold striped are as is. White striped are as is. I have a
pair of white striped. They live a lot longer than a few years, in the right environment.

Eh, it depends on their tank mates. Certainly don't put very passive fish in with a maroon.

You are absolutley right about the age. My bad. Fenner believes Maroon's stripes can fade or change color. I also heard Maroon's will get darker as they get older. What do you think?
I am new to Maroon keeping and trying to glean the most from experienced aquarists. Thanks

Watch out for that Tomato. They are not as aggressive as the maroons, but if you get your hand near her anemone, it will bite you. I had this happen this past weekend when I was working in a friends tank. I still have two small puncture wounds (yes, they have teeth)

I used really small trout hooks and a piece of shrimp. I didn't feed for about three days so he was nice and hungry. He's now someone elses problem. I do admit that if I have an tank I'd get an anemone and a pair of maroons, really nice looking fish.

I've had my pair of GSM's just under 3 years and they are great tank mates and do not mess with any of the other fish. I have added many other fish and they do seem to mind.
They do have one very large anemone and they lay eggs all the time. They used to be a light maroon and now they are very dark. Plus they have lost part of their gold stipe around their fins.

My maroon is just obsessed with hosting the powerhead. I dont think putting the largest BTA in the world would do anything. My maroon is obsessed with the powerhead.

My maroon was obsessed with a power head as well. I put a bubble tip in and he killed with love. I had no problem with it hosting, as soon as I put the bubble in he was in it.
