Hey everybody?
Just a quick question. How does goniopora reproduce? I have a really healthy piece I know I can't frag it but I was just curious.

Polyp bailout.
They will start new colonies along the base (size of a pea) and eventually fall off. this can also happen when the parent colony is fading.

cool. is this something that is common? I've heard that goniopora can be difficult. Mine is doing well it's been in my tank for over 2 months.

Bergamer-- nice tank!! I'm really jealous, haha. I hope to start a big tank someday, but I'll stick with my 29 until I get my own place...which won't be for a little while, I'm a college freshman. :D
civic-- if yours is doing well I don't see why it wouldn't be able to reproduce. My friend's corals grew like crazy over a period when his calcium was really high, so maybe boosting your calcium a bit won't hurt.

mine is about 1/2 again the size of yours and I have noticed a couple bulges on the size that look like hard white sacs then I noticed new polyps started to grow out of the bulges is this what u mean buy dropping sacs off. or is that just the way they grow

I don't mean to burst your bubble and I certainly hope that your goniopora will thrive in your tank but 2 months is hardly long enough to called it a success. I've had one before that was doing good and all for much more than 2 months, maybe 4 or 5? Then went downhill slowly and never recovered. I've tried 2 gonis before and failed, I hope you have better luck. Again, I am just stating my experience and I certainly wish you succes.

I have had the same luck as Harle. Mine did great for 8-9 months then slowly crashed. I have also not met a single person that has not told me that they don't last much more than a year in captivity. I hope I am wrong, There are more people here that know a lot more about them than I do.
