Good Algae for Bad

My Fish Only tank grows algae like no one's business. I don't mind so much, but the algae that grows the most is of the Brown and Black variety. The colours that look more like excrement than any other. My Phosphates are low (.25 mg/L) and there is no direct lighting on tank (other than ambient room lighting. My question is... would it be possible to introduce a more attractive algae that might force out the less attractive one? Then I can spend less time explaining to my co-workers that my tank is not full of fish poop.

Sure, just don't let it take over the whole tank. And it will if you let it. Get a tang, they love the stuff. STEVE

In my experience, the brown and black algae grows is lower water quality and worse light quality. I don't know how long your tank has been set up, but generally the more mature a tank, the healthier the system and the less likely you are to grow "bad algae".
For example, my two 15 gallon QTs have different lights, one has a coralife 50/50 bulb and one has a Aqua Glo (cheap freshwater bulb). The tank with the 50/50 grows green algae and the other grow black, red and brown algae.
Because algae need carbon dioxide to grow, I have found that ozone helps to minimize algae growth, and especially the brown and red variety.
