Good Beginner Corals?

I was just curious as to what were some good beginner corals for a 20g tank.
Also, what inverts are good for cleaning up detritus? I know hermit crabs are good for cleaning up algae.
Thanks.

As for the corals, I'd start out with mushrooms. They are very easy to take care for and propogation is easy too.

i started with orange finger coral, then i got about 50 green button polyps, and then a xmas worm rock(just cocoworms in tubes inside the rock, really amazing) and they are doing great!!!!!!
as for detritus do you have any plants, a shaving brush, maidens hair, kelp, anything??????

Just to throw in to check -
Keep in mind that there are really not any corals suitable for a basic "beginner" tank...these suggestions are assuming that you have some basics in terms of water quality and lighting. :) For example the normal output lights that tend to come with tanks are not suitable for keeping many/most corals...even easy one's.

I was planning on buying power compact lights. Are they good for keeping a few small corals?
As far as plants go, I wasn't really planning on having. Do they help clean up detritus?
Thanks.

puddleglum, i also have a 20 gallon that i am converting into a saltwater reef. so far this is what i have come up with on my own and also a lot of help from these message boards. first off your most likely going to need a metal halide light. if you want to have nice corals like i want. i want a clam and whatnot and thats what you need. also your going to need a protein skimmer. thats what i'm looking for at the moment. but as for the coral part. mushrooms and also maybe zoos are good "beginner" corals. tell me how it goes.

My first was a toadstool leather and orange tree sponge. I've had the toadstool for over a year now and is doing great. The sponge sadly die when I had my hair algae out break.
