If the light are just regular 40W use Twin Tube from All-Glass
Power head, I would use Power Sweep 228 from Zoo Med
Hope this help

power sweeps work great for a couple of months, and rios, are a touchy subject,
hagen or maxi jets are a good choice
for a 55 gal, iwould have 3 smaller ones
for lighting, almost any, with coralife bulbs should be fine, my pc is by ge, but i would considerr any, it is just the ballast

URI bulbs are about the best brand, ice cap ballast, hagen and maxi jets for powerheads. Stay away from rio and powersweeps.

placement, hmmm,
well that depends on a couple of things,
it isn't really a science, i put all of them at varied depths, and move them around a bit, until i get them positioned where ther are as close to ZERO dead spots , i also try to hide as much as possible behind the rock, to make things less unsightly to view, one thing you really don't want is a whirlpool effect

I have 2 penguin powerheads and 2 maxijets. I like the maxis best. Less maintaince for the most part and they just seem to move the water better.
As for lighting, I am using a JBL retrofit with PC's and am thrilled with it. On my standard 55, I now have a total of 220w. 50% actinic and 50% 10000k daylight.

just stay away from the RIO's and Penguin's. Those two products are just awful! RIO WILL NOT stand behind their product at all. Maxijet has been recommended to me by more than 1 skimmer vendar.
as far as lights go - BUILD YOUR OWN. get the retro's and build your own. I can't stress it enough.
