thats probably not your problem crabs are scavengers and will eat a varaity of things. left over food, algae etc....
if they are dying i would suspect either they are killing each other, water parameters are not good or you have another predator in there that you may or may not even know about
whats your fish and invert list and water conditions like?
if it is starvation you can try spot feeding them or maybe placing an algae sheet on a rock for them to get at.
I dont see mine eat algae to often and mine would starve then cause i have very little of it at all.

i would think most would prefer a meaty supper but my emerald picks at the rocks all day long and when myalgea clip for my tangs fell down there were a couple of crabs on it so i assume they do eat algae. as much as i overfeed though i dont think starvation for crabs will ever be a problem i have.

Ok it was my emerald crab that died and I first checked to be a molt and it was not
My tank is a 55 gal DT with a 10 gal fuge and a 20 gal sump total water counting displacement is prob around 70 gal. I have close to 70lbs of LR and between my fuge and my DT I have 30lbs of LS and 30lbs of reg argonite I am going to add about 20lbs of LS tomorrow.
my water is good
amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10-20
PH 8.2-8.3
SG 1.024-1.025
My Fish list
is one 1.5" perc clown
two 1.5" green chromis
and I am going to add
one 2" royal gramma
I have about 20 Hermit crabs
and I have about 25 snails
But I think even what little Coraline alge I have on my LR is not doing good I dont have my good lights yet just reg flouresnt(sorry failed spelling) with 10,000 spectrum lights

could have just been a death i lost one emerald same situation he just died the other has done well since the day i added them both. as long as your feeding the tank i would say its not starvation.
ive read that sometimes they do molt and dont survive that
