i have a fowlr, and some inverts(going reef soon, soft corals and mushrooms any way)
anyhow, we have recently notice 3 lil aptaisia, and the 2 would be very difficult right no, too small to hit with a syringe
but he other is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch across ht fan, and i think he stung a goby(water is perfect, except trates, around 5)=, and those who know me, know i mean perfect, anyhow hte goby is acting funny, almost paralized int hte mid section, swims, or more scoots around(blue gudgeon 3.5 to 4 inches long), and no longer flexes much in the mid section, but seems ot be getting better(a little)
anyway, can someone tell me how to kill this thing, in detali, using pickling lime(including amounts that will not screw up my tank), in a couple of weeks, we intend to get a copperband(another story), to control future events, but right now, i want the big one gone, b4 it moves, or does nay damage
tanks guys

Can you get to the big one with a syringe? If so do that till you get peppermint shrimp.
would it be possible to take the rock it's on out of your tank?
I've never heard of using pickling lime so i can't help you there

no peppermints allowed
we had some, and all htey wanted to was eat(actually devour, we watched them and thatis all htey did, eat and eat and eat, everytime thhey came out of their hole) our feather dusters, and never went near the aptasia, i realize htat most say this is not a problem but i have also found tha about 40 to 50 % of the time it is, and removing them was much harder than removing a damsel
i asked for specifics on kalk or pickling lime, for his reason, sorry , but i have heard the success stories about peppermints, and have not seen them, but had other problems wiht them, so i opt not to use them, IME at best they are a marginal possibilty for a cure, but more of a hzardto my large and much liked cluster duster population
tanks anyway for sthe suggestion, but it is not what i am looking for

oh yeah, sinners girl, if you are familiar with using kalk and a syringe, that is what i am looking for, kalk and pickling lime are the same substance(not sure on the potency, but ohterwise they are the same)

I have killed about 8 with a syringe, it works fantastic. At night time is the best it seems to be when they are most extended. Get a glass mix 2 tbsp. of kalk suck it up into the syringe immediately. Then go hunting. Inject the syringe as close to center as possible. If they retract into their hole you can still usually get them. Just stick the syringe into the hole hopefully spearing the anemonie at the same time and inject a small amount, enough to see the white coming out of the hole. If you miss it may take a second shot maybe the next night.

jimi, i have heard htat pickling lime is the same stuff, and since i don't use kalk, would this be a good less expensive alternative??
and do i need the needle, i was just thinking that you only need the plunger, butwhen you said spearing it, i gotta wonder, just want to be sure, especially since i only have the plungers, my mom works at a hospitla, and they aren't too woried about the syringes going out, as long as there are no needles involved

I read that there is a fich called a Racoon that will take care of that problem. It says that they thrive bes with a protein skimmer and u.v. and are not to be put with aggresive fish and they grow to be about 6 inches but they are kool looking.

all you have to do is get the live rock sealant and seal there little holes from hell up <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" />
it works for me... no more sign of them <img src="graemlins//mischievous.gif" border="0" alt="[Mischievous]" />

I posted about this in another thread and got some more info for you since i see that you have the same question. The Feb. 2002 issue of FAMA ran this advertisement on page 25 if you want to read specifically what they say and where you can get it, or see their web site at
<a href="http://www.chem-marin.com/" target="_blank">www.chem-marin.com/</a>
hope this helps. I know you said they would be hard to hit, but this is aparently a surefire way to rid yourself of them.
