Gorgonia question

I have a red gorgonia with yellow polyps that is growing beautifully. HOWEVER....it has a "growth" on one branch. The "growth" looks brownish-green in color, is flat and circular. It is about 1/4 inches wide and looks like miniature "plates" stacked oddly. It is stuck to the gorgonia pretty good and is hard and slimy feeling. Any ideas on what this could be?

I know a picture helps but I'm not very good at that sort of thing...although I'll see what I can do.
Thank you in advance!

No but in any case get it off. Scrape it off brush it off or cut the branch below the growth. Any build up on a gorgonian can lead to necrosis and spread to the rest of the coral. You should have the specimine in the path of a powerhead but not so much that its blowing over.

Thanks for your quick response! It is in a good spot with lots of flow without getting blown over. Doing really well except for that "thing" on it. I'll try your suggestions over the weekend.
