Gorgonian grooming

My gorgonian keeps suffering from algal growth or algae I scrape off attaches to him and seems to be preventing him from feeding. Should I pick the algae off with my hhands or can i use a tooth brush or can someone suggest a better way?

Biggest thing I have found is flow. Gorgonian should litterly be bending over in the current (if its flexible). A friend has a LMB that "rides" his gorgonian in the current all the time, and picks at it quite often.

Algea is a big killer of gorgs so I would work on getting your algea problem under control also but you should be able to just gently brush them off with a toothbrush. I can't see it hurting them. Haven't tried it either though.

I've brushed them with a toothbrush, used my hands and waved off the algae, done plenty of things, but the best way to stop it is put it under ALOT of flow. Or you could take it out and set it on fire, that does work.
