...if you do then check these pics out. I just took them at random after I cleaned the glass on the display. Sometimes the urge to take pictures just strikes me...usually whenever I'm messin' with the aquarium. The hobbys are inter-related at least in my situation they are.....photography and reefkeeping go hand in hand.
I was just lookin' at the display and these pics stuck out begging to be shot.
This first one is a recent addition...I purchased it as a fromia star.....I believe thats a correct ID. Its about mid-way between a quarter sized and 50 cent piece sized speciman. Very kewl....subtle...addition. So far its doing great......hopefully nobody has any negitive input about keeping one in my reef. I've always wanted a colorful starfish and this is my first experience with one.

This is a group shot looking in from the left side of the display. Sometimes I try to capture a glimpse of what I actually see with my eye....this is a blink of what I look at...sort of...

I've always wanted to "try" to get a decent reflection shot of my display...I've tried lots of times with no luck. This one is the best I've been able to get...I sort of liked it...not a great quality pic...but way better than all my previous reflection pics.

Great pics NM!!!!!!!!!  :) I love the Fox Face pic, turned out great. Your star is amazing. What are their requirements as far as food, tank size. I would love a star like that.
Thanks for sharing

thanks Adam....below are some "notes" that sum up the basic info I have to date. Since I've never kept one until just a few days ago I can't offer any first hand experience with them. But the general info I've seen suggests the fromia is a suitable addition in a mature reef of 75+ gallons and plenty of LR to forage on.....my major concern is how large it will get and if it'll tobble any of my corals as it forages.
"Notes: : One of the more brilliant starfish, the Red Fromia Star is quite hardy once acclimated. More than one individual may be kept in larger aquariums of 80 gallons or more providing there is plenty of live rock for them to graze off of. The Fromia Star will spend much of its time foraging the reef for tiny micro-organisms and detritus to eat.
Maintain stable pH and specific gravity levels to keep this starfish healthy. Sudden changes in water parameters can cause bacterial infections that may cause necrosis of its arms, or even death.
Although it is a scavenger you may supplement its diet with scraps of meaty foods."

Well, there is another cool star I can't keep (46g tank). When I get a larger tank but I like it better than the Linkias and it sounds hardier. Thanks for the pics and intro to a new animal to me.:D

Great pictures, NM! I love taking pictures of my tank that let me 'step back' and take it all in. I think I spend too much time looking at individual corals. I'll be waiting for updates on your fromia. I've been wanting to try keeping one of them for years, so hopefully I'll pick up some pointers from you by the time I'm ready to keep one.

Yosemite Sam...I'll keep ya posted on how the fromia does. I took my time locating one and spent about 5-6 hours acclamating it....so far it seems to be active and has adjusted well. In the past few days it has traveled the entire length of the display and all around a few times...so it seems fine.....
usinkit...many thanks for the kind compliment...I've definitely seen many nicer ones....but its good to know folks like the way mine looks.:happyfish

I like pic 2. For some reasone those side tank shots always look great. I think is because it shows depth.:D
I also have a fromia star. Though mine is in my 20gal. I read also that it fed on microorganisms and detritus but ophiura says that they feed on bacterial films instead. I'll believe the info cause she knows her starfish. Now I'm kinda worried mine will be starving soon. Only had it about a month.

I've also sought Susans advice on caring for them.....I'm hopeful mine will live a long and happy life....should be plenty of surface area for it to feast from.
Check it out...still lookin' good!!!

NM,
This tank just keeps looking better and better every time you post pics! Your husbandry skills have produced one of the nicest looking mixed reefs I've seen ANYWHERE.
I especially love the pic you took of the reflection of the reef on the front pane. The glass is so clean!
That's a beautiful fromia by the way!

Thanks....y'all are too kind. I've never really considered my reef in the same league as some I've seen over the years.
Lighting consists of 2x110 URI actinics & 2x400 Ushio 10K's...
Since it seems the attachment feature is working...here is a recent pic of the fromia...
