Ok, so I need to vent. I went to a friends house last night to drop off some LR and pick up some various creatures. Needless to say I came home with my hands full and didn't lock my car. (Although I shouldn't have to in my own garage!!!) Anyhow I came out this morning for work and realized someone had broken the window out in my garage and broke into my car and stole the stereo. The good news is they left my golf clubs and backpacking gear... Anyone out there know what kind of day I am having???

A few years ago our home was broken into and several thousand in jewelry and stero equip was stolen. The cops never figured who did it.....nothing in this world is lower than a liar or a thief...I hope in your case they at least find who did it.

Sucks, we got our house broken into, our cars broken into and then a year later (almost to the day), our house again, it was a rental and we moved away from that neighborhood! Anyway I feel your pain, nothing is worse than being violated that way. The only thing we had stolen that wasn't replaceable was my engagement ring, that really tore me up.

yea I've got an idea
in 2001 I bought a 97 honda accord I had it all of about 72 hrs before it got stolen and on top of that it had about 1,200.00 cash
all of my best clothes, my pistol , my turntables and records(I was a dj at the time) and about 600 or so cd's (bought not downloaded)
I had just returned from a long road trip and I had not unpacked yet. so you can guess all of the stuff that I had in my car that got stolen too ins. coverd the car but the total of all the stuff I lost was worth more than the car was and whats worse is who had the car but thats another story.....

That sucks. I had my truck window broken and my radar detector grabbed when I was going to college. They hit it and ran. If they had taken an extra 10 seconds and opened my unlocked glovebox, they would have found an $800.00 9mm handgun.
I think all thieves should be taken out and shot.

The more I hear of this happening to good, hard working people, the angrier I get. Law enforcement is not the answer. That applies only after the damage is done, so in essence, it is useless. It comes down to protecting your possesions that you have earned with your own money that you have worked hard for. These people don't really care about the consequences because these days it seems that when they are caught, the consequence is usually little more than probation. This is a flaw in our legal system. Okay, so the answer is prevention. How is that accomplished? Car alarms? I think it has been proven thet are little more than a money making scheme that is easily overridden by the thieves, but is still better than nothing. Stand out in front of your vehicles in shifts with an Uzi? Not EVEN feesible. You end up in more trouble then the thieves would. As hard as this is to say, let them have the stuff and protect yourself and your family. When people actually break into your house, now that is an extremely different matter. Someone could easily get killed if they enter while you are home. But we must protect ourselves and our families at all costs, whatever it takes. So the only sure thing is we get very angry and feel violated. How sad is that?

When I was in college I had my stereo stolen by a guy on the football team. I didn't know him, but he broke into about 10 cars on campus in 2 weeks. Someone tipped off the police and they looked in his apartment and found one of my amps and a su
oofer. They did not find my CD player that my borther had given me or my speakers.
They returned my stuff to me that they found in HIS apartment but they said they could not press charges against him because no one saw him steal my stuff.
So he got off scott free and they did not pressure him to tell where my other stuff had gone! They just let him go...

All he got was expelled from school.

I was talking to a friend today whom I hadn't seen in over a week. Someone broke into his SUV and stole the DVD player and monitor two days ago. He lives in a decent neighborhood, the truck was parked in his driveway lit up by a security light and the alarm went off. His neighbor woke to the sound of the alarm. By the time she got to the window (she claimed less than one minute), she thought she would be able to see the person(s). She waited. And waited. And waited. No one appeared. They were in and out that quickly. They learn the "tricks of the trade" in prison or from people who have been in prison. We are pretty much helpless when it comes to protecting our investments in situations like this.

you could try like a surveillence camera that you can have turn on when it detects motion and that records when so.
