I have an older book that says bubble algae is a desired algae...nowadays nobody wants it in there tank.
There are two types, valonia…these are small bubbles, kind of oblong they spread in a cluster….then there is the ventricaria bubble algae that I allow to grow , they actually look like marbles, if it gets where I don't want it, I remove it. It doesn't grow as fast as hair algae, it takes a bit of time for it to get out of control. So I make sure I am on top of things.
I love the look, like big silver green marbles. They are hard like plastic when they get to be about the size of a quarter. I have a small cluster I allow to grow in one corner of my tank nowhere else.
Some call them a nuisance, they also say Xenia is as well. If you are diligent, and keep it cropped down and allow it to only grow where you want it…why not.
I have looked it up many times...I still like it.
