GPH - how much is too much?

I was wondering how much is too much with regards to GPH for my 110G X-High tank (48 x 18 x 30)?
I am going to install an in-line pump to run my heater and UV Filter but I want to make sure the GPH are not too much for the tank or all the fun things living within.
I was looking at getting a pump rated at 320GPH, but was curious if the jump to the next one, rated at 634GPH, would be too much? Thank you!

634 gph isn't too much at all. As long as your fish aren't being slammed around the tank and the inhabitants aren't being blown around, you should be fine. I wouldn't go higher than 1,500gph IMO.

I have a total of 2600gph in my 55g. I would say when your live rock shifts in the current you officially have too much flow.
Seriously though the amount of flow that you can have in your tank is dependant on how your tank is setup IE how much live rock, type of coral, type of power heads ect... Many tanks have 60x or more turnover rate so on a 110 that would be 6600gph flow rates that high are usually reserved for tanks housing predominantly SPS coral.

Some people do 50x total tank volume per/hr or more. some do less.It really just depends on what you have in your tank .Softies and LPS definitely wouldn't do that well w 50x/GPH.I had 7000/GPH in my 125 gallon at one time but i had to tune it down to 4000/GPH because it was negatively affecting some of my LPS.
