GPH overkill?

Right now all I have in my 30gal is a couple of mushrooms and a gph of about 200?
I have an unused PowerHead of 800gph and when I tried it out it blasted everything and messed up the tank.
A friend suggested cutting off one of the blades from it to cut down on the power, would this work or just mess up the PH?

Can you not aim the powerhead in a different direction so it doesn't blow everything around so much but still gives you the circulation?

point it at the glass so that it creates a turbulent environment instead of a direct flow causing misplaced sand and such. 800gph in a 30 gallon tank is little IMO. i'm at ~1400 gph right now and can readily dial up to >2000gph in my 30 gallon 24x24x12

Cutting off tines will screw up the ph. Just reposition the ph so that it isn't aimed at the tank floor. Aim it at the side of a rock or just up into the water column.

Asked about cutting one of the blades cause I've tried putting it everywhere and in every direction, but to me it looks like it's too much because of the feather dusters and mushrooms look like they would be blown away by the ph.

+1 or point it against another ph....or some sort of other flow. U want a swish swash effect of ur flow not straight down into the sand or at a coral piece. Ocean current is actually very strong. How strong, idk because ive never been scuba!

i would add a mercury 150 hp boat motor to my tank if i could afford the gas :O)
put the ph 2/3 down the glass and point it toward the top .i have a korilia #4 in my 30 qt .but there is no sand in there .it dont look like it would be too much to me.
