Brains do not require a lot of light and they do tend to do better sitting on the sandbed as well. Compact fluorescents are good enough to keep an open brain and have success. And when you choose one from your LFS, ask them what kind of lighting they are running. For brain corals, you may need to acclimatize them with your current lighting setup.
