green coralline?

i'm having these odd green spots growing on my glass. They grow in round spots like my purple and pink coralline but it grows faster and in a closer cluster of individual spots but it's alot harder to scrap off then the green film that grows but not as solid as my purple and pink coralline. Any ideas if it's actually coralline or just some hard green algae.

there is green coraline alage usually the purples and pinks cover it pretty quick so we only see it for a short time.

true, but also are you feeding DT's ? It could also be a phyto bloom. Are you having green algea problems? If not then it's probably just green Coraline.

Corraline algae does come in different colors, depending on the type of live rock and the lighting. Lower lighted tanks will produce different types of corraline than a higher lighted tank with the same rock. I have some tonga branch that has started to develop green corraline, but because I have a ton of purple on my figi live rock, it is slowly being overtaken. Corraline comes in purple, pink, red, green, and different shades of all of these. Purple is more aggressive per say, if you have this in your tank, it will take over. Different shades make for a very interesting, colorful tank. The more the merrier. (Better than hair algae......) Enjoy!!

dont forget yellow and tan coraline.... the color variety is almost unlimeted. but the main dominant colors are pinks and purples they seem to flourish in tank settings usually overtaking any other colors present.

It seems like if you've had any bleaching, the green will come in first until the purple takes over. My favorites are the reds and pinks

Cool, must just been some green coralline, i only feed the tank prime reef flake and mysis as there are only fishies in there right now and i'm just running 80w of NO Florecent on a 55 until i get my 440w of VHO in a few weeks then i'm guessing bye bye to green and hello pink and purple. I still have pink and purple growing under the light i have, just not very fast, but it has completely covered my rocks so hopefully it'll speed things up with the VHO.

coraline does awesome under NO flourescents. my coraline actually slowed noticably when i switched to PC lighting.

at my lfs they just set up a new 250gallon tank and in two months there's isn't an inch of glass on the back that isn't covered with purple coralline, it just looks like they take a huge purple sheet of coralline and glued it on the back. or course that's under MH. I'm guessing i'll get bleaching of my current coralline but i'm hoping the VHO will make new coralline grow like crazy.

I have lots of the green too on my back glass. Seems to be only in the high flow areas....... The rest of the glass is the purples, reds and pinks.
And yes I too feed DT's

Mike is right as always. Only after a tank move to our new home when the others died off of my back glass and turned white did the greens start to reappear. This must be a old thread bouncing back to the surface. When looking today my greens are again gone replaced buy the other normal colors.
Someone post the question what is DT's. It is a Live green stinky phytoplankton product that many use, as a food and supplement for Clams, Coco worms Feather Dusters and the like. Just Google the terms and you will see it.

Anybody with T-5s? I have friend who has an old established tanks with T-5 lights, and his coralline is predominately green on the surface, with purple, pinks, and red on the underside of the live rock. Just curious if anyone else has similar results?
DT is a brand name producer of marine foods.

I have 6 T-5's and TONS of coralline algae in all colors. Mainly purple but also pink and green (lime and dark). We put in a new rock on Dec. 21 and it is already starting to show alot of coralline algae.

My last tank I had a 75 gallon half circle Oceanic, I noticed a pet store in NJ had spray bar returns from sump very high flow, 50-100x GPH, they also painted the back of tanks and bottoms white from the outside with a roller, anyway, my back and bottom of tank turned all pink and purple, two spray bars with 900 GPH pumps on each end, bottom back, top back downward,
Anyway, on 1/2 half moon 10 gallon mini reef I made two sprays bars with 402 power heads (270 GPH) on each end, because of mushroom corals one is bottom back across bottom of tank, one is middle flowing upward improving surface skimming, tried 50/50, 18000K, next 20000K I get spots of purple and pink (not many) the bottom around life rock is lime green, red, and brown, looks like coralline. Its just 15 watt 18 inch T8 6000K/actinic 03 8 inches from surface (suspended) and a mini light (coral life) 2 six watt actinic 03 bottom back.
I never saw green, red, brown before, its OK, since this is low level lighting I'm going to try 50/50, 20000K, and actinic 03 12 hours and day, and 14, and see if the colors change up, or it matures as suggested. I can promise you I never saw green, red, and brown coralline before since the late 80s, just spots in shadows, over flow boxes, and pumps, and then the entire back and bottom where the flow and light was. I dont stack rock against back wall, I get the no nitrate, phosphates, increased magnesium, buffer, calcium, daily, strontium, trace elements weekly, changing water with distilled and a reef salt mix.
I seem to remember bright lights where 50/50 and actinic 03, lots of them like the extreme and pro series, metal hallide just gets you spots in the shadows, plastic for some reason, yes I heard the stories it does work for most of us.
I see the lime green with spots of purple on rock, I'm hoping the theory is correct on its turns to pink and purple, the mature live rock has it, the snails can eat it faster than it grows, yet you need them, I notice the pink corraline more when the snail decided to clean the glass and pipes for a few days, not the live rock.
Flow, chemistry, lighting, the lighting I'm going to test 50/50, 20000K, different 50/50 lights, I read 10K is pleasing to the eyes, not to the animals after 6700K, I don't agree metal hallides are worth the cost, heat, and results. Its like sales model, don't trust anyone.
