I have set up a 125 gal tank with about 70 lbs of live rock from another tank.I am going to put in another 200 lbs of fiji live rock and my question is can I put in the new rock in with the rock that has the algae on it?I know that the ammonia levels will be high for period but I am not sure if it will kill the algae or if I should take care of it somehow before I place the new rock in.Thank-you for your help.

Since you are adding more rock and recycling the tank. Pull out the rock with the algea on it and clean it by pulling off as much as you can then scubbing it with a brush until it is all gone.

But be careful not to use a brush that has been used for household cleaning. I would imagine that any ammonia stemming from decaying algae will be immediately absorbed by the bacteria on the 200 lbs. of live rock. But I am a beginner in this hobby.

Oh, one more thing. If it looks "hair-like", the algae is probably not the really bad blue-green kind. In fact, it may be a good kind. As I understand, the blue-green algae, in general, typically is observed as slimely mats, not as hair-like filaments. But don't take my word on it--identifying algae can be very difficult.
