Green hairy mushroom question

We have our Green hairy mushroom on a 3" X 4" rock in the middle of the sand, not touching other rocks. The shroom has completely covered the rock and in some cases overhangs. Our question is what happens when the shroom has nowhere to grow? will it grow on the sand? will it die cause it cant grow anymore?

a shroom can survive almost anything...its the foot you need to worry about not the top polyp but yes it will grow onto the sandm, and my even detach that part of its foot to start another polyp
