Bought this ell few months ago at the fish store, it said on the tank it was a green moray. Now all the pic on the internet that i see all the ells have a solid color. The one i got is kinda greenish brown with yellow speckels on it. Is this because its a baby? its only about a foot long now. i have a junky pic to look at, can anyone id this eel? Having problems with pic will add when i figure it out.

i dont think anybody keeps a green because they kill fish and almost nobody has a tank big enough to support it for life but what you got there is not a green moray

For your sake I hope it is not a Green Moray, unless of course you have a swimming pool you are converting to house it

Please, please please research purchases before you make them. Many pet stores sell fish woefully inappropriate for aquariums.

It's definately not a Green, either.
Get closer, clearer pictures and I can help you out.

It very well may be a juvenile Kidako. With the pics that have been supplied, you can't get a definitive ID.
Also, why would you buy any fish, without know what it is or what it's requirements are?

Hopefully, you're not intending to get a true Green Moray...that is, unless you have 1000+ gallon tank to put it in, by itself.

Echo, echo, echo...
Use the flash, on your camera. Your pics won't be blurry and they'll be clear.

I do believe beach bum has gotten it. I also thought Gymnothorax richardsonii, but without the clear pics, the nose/head of the Moray was hard to see. The coloration certainly is a close match.

I went to to my local saltwater fish store and saw that same kind of eel! I think it said green something I cannot remember. They wanted 3.00 for it. How active is the eel?

One of the LFSs around here has had a big green moray (Gymnothorax funebris) for a while. Someone was supposed to pick it up this weekend but did not show. It is so large that it lays half it's body on the bottom of the tank and it's front half goes up the glass. If it gets much bigger his head will be out of the water. It's also so aggressive that it has come out of the tank at the guy working back there. They've put 2 glass tops weighted down to keep that bad boy in. He lunges when people walk by, I'm scared of him, lol.
