Green Moss everywhere in my tank!

We just moved from the east to the west coast and had to re-establish our tank. This time however during the cycling there is a hairy looking moss growing all over my not quite back alive rock. I reduced the lighting to like 9 hours a day, but maybe i need to make it less....im not sure! Does anyone know why this moss grows and how to reduce it or make it go away? Thank you!

pull the rock out and scrape off wat u can. if you are not reading nitrite and amonia (assuming your tank is going through a cycle because of the move) you can add a few snails and hermit crabs. if you are reading just nitrates or very low nitrites start doing some regular water changes to reduce them.

Its definately green hair algea. There are alot less types of clean up crews that eat it. Once its there it can spread easily. I never had hair algea before and I had added 45 more pounds of live rock and a new metal halide system to my tank before going on vacation not too long ago. I came home and I had the start of hair algea all over the new rocks and it was spreading. I decreased my lighting and it still grew. I used only my accents and it still grew. I took out the new live rock and put it in dark tubs for a couple of weeks and I still had some and it had spread to my other rock before I removed it. I have 295 pounds of live rock total, so scrubbing it all wasn't an option. I then noticed that my one mexican turbo snail loved it. I went to the LFS and bought 20 of them. within a week I had absolutely no sign of hair algea and haven't seen it since. I now struggle to feed the snails due to virtually no algea in my tank. Good luck.
