I think we might have the same stuff, I was trying to describe it to my lfs to no avail but a pic is worth... well you know. Is this how yours looks?

And if this is not what you have sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread.

Algae blooms can drive ya crazy, I know! Once your tank is cycled and mature, it will likely settle down and the algae issue will not be as much of an issue. it will never go away, but you will learn to manage it.
Suggest that you need a lot more LR! Also, basic algae control involves removing food sources (nitrates, phosphate), the employment of an adequate number of cleaner crew members, and the physical removal, by you, of excess amounts of algae.
In my established 55 gal tank, I still have some algae that my cleaners (snails, hermits, and a sallylightfoot crab) don't get to and when I clean the inside of the tank glass the water does get cloudy. I have a couple of canister filters that combined are rated at about 9 tank volumes per hour of turn over so any algae in the water gets sucked up and trapped in the filters in short order.
Cleaning algae w/o somehow removing it from the water can be a very effective tool for helping it to disperse and propagate!

yes that looks like it. Now I have a redish purple looking mossy looking algae growing. The skimmer clears the water back up in about an hour or so, but I wonder if that may have something to do with why my nitrates are zero. Its 4 weeks and my readings have not changed. I have been through 3 different colored algae colors and still no nitrates. Is it normal to take this long for a tank to cycle with 8 damsels and 2 inches live sand and 30 lbs of LR? It is a 125gal tall, but man 4weeks? hanks to all for your replies.
