Green star polyp question

I have 125 g tank and I have a patch of green star polyps in my tank. Tonight, I noticed that the purple base of the polyp has white areas on it. It appears to only be around the base but I want to make sure that they are not dying because when I came home earlier in the evening they were fine. I am not sure what could have happened in a matter of a few hours. I do have other coral in my tank but these guys are all by themselves on their own side of the tank. I just tested the water on Monday and everything was fine.

Please help, I really enjoy these guys and would like to save them if they are dying. Oh there is one thing that I noticed, there appears to be bristel star fish on the rock, so I am wondering if they are annoying the polyps. Thanks!

My GSP are not open all the time. They go threw mood swings almost haha. If the polyps were extended earlier in the day, and looked fine......
then they are fine! lol
In salt water tanks ive learned worrying about things is useless unless something is dead or leaking. lol well kind of

I'm pretty sure the white parts are just the new growth of the purple mat. I've seen it on my GSP also but only in the areas that it's growing. That area tends to purple back up and then I'll see another white-ish area pop up. I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree. It sounds like new growth to me too. I have one and that thing grows like crazy.

i dont know if you can see the white edge on my gsp at the top there, but I tried to get a pic after the lights went out so you could compare yours and mine.
