greenish brown alge on sand bed?

has anyone woke up to find a greenish brown alge well i think its alge on the sand bed, whats the best way of getting rid of it? any ideas would be a great help

Well, it is one of two things:
1. Cyano (do a search on here for a thread by JustinX about red slime)
2. Diatoms - these are a result from using silicate laden water. Switch your water source to RO water and these will abate in time.

does it look like hair? When its still short or starting out you literally will have to put nose to tank and see if it moves in the current. How old is the tank? What type of water used? Have you tested for phosphates?
