Does anyone know why I have small grey areas in my DSB? Is this normal, good, bad or other?
Thanks

I don't know about gray spots. I've heard of Blackening spots in a DSB being a sign on excess Hydrogen sulfide, a toxin. Its produced in DSB's in small amounts and in small amouts controlled naturaly, but in larg amounts toxic to most living things. Do you have good water circulation? Maybe this post will get you back up to the top for a shark to see.

Do you have live rock? are you using Kalkwasser? I have been told that if you use too much the mixture will seperate out of the water and form hard spots in the sand. Just a quess, I am sure someone else will know the answer.

This is perfectly normal.
Check out the webpage below, including the DSB pics.
