I personally dont think so but I would wait for someone with more experience.

I consider grounding necessary on all my tanks. Its a cheap way to give a little "added comfort".

Three things are necessary IMO.
1. A GFCI outlet
2. Owning a voltage meter to find out what appliance is causing a problem.
3. A ground probe.
Number 1 and 3 can help save your life or that of someone else.

I agree with gasguzzler. I like knowing that if something were to go wrong, I (or someone else) am not in danger. I always suggest them as a good piece of equipment to have. I figure if you are spending all the money already on the all the expensive electronic equipment, why not protect yourself just in case.
