growth rate?

Depends on the kind and your water conditions, Ca, alk, etc and lights.
I have some that have taken off like weeds with an inch or more a month on multiple branches and some that grow eever so slowly....
If you're interested in a certain kind do some research and ask some people who own them. :)

I was asking the same kinds of questions a couple years ago. Generally speaking, on average, did I mention generally speaking, if you meet there requirements a 1 " frag will grow to plus or minus 3"-4" with multiple branches in a year.

Yea, different species are renound for growing faster/slower than that too. My birdsnest and monti cap are taking off, whereas all my acros havent branched yet, just encrusting.
Compared to LPS/zoos, SPS are slow growers. But IMO once they get big, they can be some colorful sticks

most of the SPS I've had (millipora, valida, monti digita, various staghorns in particular) grew much faster than just about every LPS and zoo I've ever had. they'd take longer to adapt and begin to grow but once they adapted and began to grow they easily outpaced LPS and zoanthid. I think fast SPS growth (of the fast growers) are highly dependant on conditions and lighting. everybody will have a different experience where as fast growing zoanthid and LPS grow fast for just about anybody with good lighting and not horrible tank conditions.

I have a monti cap that grows faster than anything. I had a 1" acro frag that did not grow at all in a year. stayed exactly the same size. like they said above some are fast growers. Some will grow fast in one persons system and slow in another. I definitely agree that they need an aclimation period then they start growing.

what is the growth rate of sps corals. i want one but my lfs dosent sell them.
What LFS is that? All the ones I go to here in West Palm usually carry SPS.
The best one right now is Oceans Below on US1 south of Northlake.
Also, once the new owner of Coral Sea gets his system complete, he will start carrying SPS in a special tank he's building.

I would definitely check out oceans below then. I actually got my first sps at marks ark, it was an orange encrusting monti. still doing great.

remember too that a 4 branched sps turns into a 8 branch and a 8 branch to 16 branch so once they take off it can be extremely fun. thats where the ca and alk starts getting to be depleted more and more.
