I just got a frag of green star polyp from a friend that was from a very healthy bunch. THey were under Haldies. I put them in my tank under halides and they opened for a day, now they are not openign up....They are kind of just budding and i can see the tips....whats up with that?
All my other frag corals are opened up...including frogspawn, zoos, ricordea, mushrooms, and a toadstool.
I had them about halfway up the tank and they were kind of in a medium-high flow so i moved them to the bottom of the tank and still nothing! they were so pretty when they were open, now i just want them to re-open!
My tank is a 55 gallon with 2 actinics 2 metal halides and i have perfect water quality
0 ammonia
0 nitrate
0 nitrite
0 phosphate
420 ca

Are they being stung by any other corals eg euphyllia. Also aiptasia can settle among the polyps and prevent them from opening and also star polyps are sensitive to aluminum oxide that is in some phosphate removing sponges are you using one of those ?

none of those are the problem .....i don't have any corals near them and i don't have that pad..........except i do have an aiptasia or two but on the opposite side of the tank, but I'm gonna get a peppermint shrimp for that!

im sure theyll open up. maybe your lighting is just newer (bulb) than your friend's. also maybe the depth has something to do with it and its not used to the light
what type of lighting do you and your friend have?

i don't have tests for those 2, but it seems i have tests for everything else! but it wouldn't make sense for it to be either one of those, because the frogspawn is looking amazing and opening up huge! and the zoos look good too. Ricordea opens, everything but this GSP it still wont open! and its been 3 days! I've tried really high in the tank, and really low with both no luck....any other suggestions?

I think you need to try leaving it alone for awhile. Put it in a good flow area mid to high level in your tank and let it be for a few days.
